Marje Taska's multi-faceted symbolistic exhibition is dedicated to her friend and colleague, curator, journalist and gallerist Reet Varblane. Baritone Reinhold Rutks and organist Maris Tammsalu will participate in the ritual part of the opening.
The star and the cross symbolize life and death, but inversely, the star becomes the other side towards which a person strives in his/her introspection, and the cross represents earthly life with its everyday responsibilities and suffering. We all have to carry our own cross, and reaching for a star could be our daily spiritual longing and spiritual regeneration. The acorn represents fertility, strength and toughness, because the oak, as a "world tree" with its deep roots and a strong trunk, is encoded in every acorn.
This exhibition also has a philosophical-political side, which concerns the tragedies of our times – the inhumane wars, the borderless desire for power, etc. – which have not been resolved in the so-called development of our civilization. For example, the installation "Fallen Stars" can be interpreted as a pentagonal political red power that finally explodes like its own projectiles. The energy in the processes of birth and death are one and the same – the transition of one form to another in our common game of life.
